Key theft

Theft of key_Extract

“In 1927 a Hospital Ball was held at Harlaxton Manor, and for this special occasion electricity was installed. The ball was a great success, but first thing next morning the electricity was taken out. Also on the occasion of this ball the front door key was stolen. Two detectives were placed on duty and after this Mr Pearson Gregory had the brass fittings placed on the door. It was the Housemaid’s job to clean these brass fittings every Saturday.”

Mrs. Thornton’s recollections, Head Housemaid, 1928-1937
