“Breakfast was served in the Small Dining Room (once known as the Red Room and currently the Drawing Room) at 9.00am. Mr Pearson Gregory would eat breakfast and then return to his study, unless there was a lady visitor, when he would join her in the Small Drawing Room (currently the Morning Room). There were brass handles on the shutters and lovely red velvet curtains at the window. The walls were green and there was a huge dining table with red chairs with gold on the backs.”

Mrs. Thornton’s recollections, Head Housemaid, 1928-1937.
