The Butler’s Rooms

“The Sherwin Room was the Butler’s Room,  in which there was a strong room. The small rooms off were a scullery and cleaning room. The silver was washed in one room and cleaned in the other.

The Butler’s Sitting Room was opposite [known as Culpin Room, named after Mrs Culpin who was a later Housekeeper – this room used to be the Housekeeper’s Sitting Room at one time]. The front door was always answered by the footman…

The Music Room was the Agent’s Office.”

Mrs. Thornton’s recollections, Head Housemaid, 1928-1937
