60th Anniversary of ‘A Bridge Too Far’

September 2004 marked the 60th anniversary for the battle of Arnhem, which is also known as ‘A Bridge Too Far’ a popular 1977 film, A Bridge Too Far, depicts the events of Operation Market Garden following the Normandy Invasion.  Operation Market Garden was a failed attempt to invade Germany and bring the war to a close.  Soldiers from the 1st Airborne Division who resided at Harlaxton Manor were part of the brigades that fought in Operation Market Garden, many of whom did not return.
