Gregory roundel

Possible Portrait of Gregory Gregory

Gregory Gregory

Image thought to be Gregory Gregory at top of Cedar Staircase, Harlaxton Manor

No known portraits exist of Gregory Gregory, but it is possible that this image, located in the ceiling of the Cedar Staircase, is of the man himself. Set between Gregory Gregory’s initials and the Gregory coat of arms, a man’s face shown in profile is set in a roundel – hearkening back to ancient Greece and Rome – and illustrating the way in which a gentleman of the period would present himself as educated and cultured.
